From Color and Relax we received the book Color and Relax Peacefull patterns for writing a review about.
This book is the first colouring book by Jo Shiloh. He published the book Color and Relax Tranquil treasures earlier, which we reviewed some time ago. In this book you will find all kinds of patterns, from easy to more difficult ones. The designs are printed one-sided, which I always find a plus. The cover of the book reveales what the book is about. It shows a pattern in which the repeated pattern is always coloured in the same way.The paper feels thin, but I will test how it colours of course. But first I will show you some examples from the book, to give you an idea of what you can expect.
I started with colouring pencils and chose the Stabilo Original pencils. The pencils coloured a little stiff but did release enough pigment. The pigment was absorbed well by the paper and the colours are displayed well. I didn’t adapt it, because I think the colours covered the paper well enough.
Next I coloured with felt-tips and chose the Zig Clean color real brush pens. The ink dried well and remained in place. The colours are displayed nicely too. Because the paper is rather thin, the ink presses through. So just to be on the safe side I put a white sheet of paper between the pages to prevent the ink from damaging the design on the next page.
Since the pages are printed one-sided, I wanted to test what alcohol markers would do on this paper. I chose the Winsor & Newton Brushmarkers. These markers coloured very nice on this paper. The colours dried up nice and even and I had no problem with bleeding. So this paper is suited for using markers too. Do put a clean piece of paper or cardboard between the pages however, because alcohol markers always press through. And with this thin paper that happens for sure.
Conclusion: This book contains simple and more difficult patterns. The paper feels thin, but is suited for all sorts of materials. Pencils, felt-tips and even alcohol markers all work well on this paper. Pencils were a little stiff, but the result was good. The book is printed one-sided, which I always think is an advantage.
