From Ulysses Press we received this Coloring Ocean Mandalas Book for writing a review on. We want to thank Ulysses Press very much.
Information on the internet: Coloring for adults gets a nautical twist with this collection of whimsical mandalas. Relax, focus, reach a higher state of mindfulness, and simply enjoy yourself as you artistically fill in the intricate shapes. Coloring Ocean Mandalas offers you an imaginative array of underwater images, including: * Whales * Mermaids * Sea Turtles * Sea Horses * Dolphins * Sea Urchins * Jellyfish
It’s a nice colouring book containing 30 designs themed Ocean, handmade by Wendy Piersall.
What comes to notice is that the paper feels very thin. On the other hand the pages are printed one-sided so that is an advantage. The book contains various designs showing Dolphins, Seahorses, Shells and Mermaids. Really nice variations in Mandala’s. I will show you some examples now.
I wonder what felt-tips will do on this paper, so I tested these first. I used the Faber Castell Pitt brush pens and some Tombow ABT dual brush pens.
Because the paper felt very thin I thought the felt-tips would press through a lot, but that’s not the case with these two. The ink remains between the lines and fill up nicely. The paper doesn’t bulge from the moist ink.
I tried an extra one using Stabilo 88 and Staedler Triplus color. These are much used felt-tips. The Staedler Triplus color doesn’t press through but the Stabilo 88 does a little. That itself is no problem because there are no pictures on the back.
To make things complete I chose a design for colouring with pencils. I used the Caran d’Ache Luminance. These pencils coloured beautifully on this paper. You can use these pencils for the layer-on-layer technique very well. The transitions become very nice with the various shades. The paper stays nice, even after I went over the same spot several times with different colours.
Conclusion : A very nice colouring book containing 30 mandala’s printed one sided. The paper feels a little thinner but can be coloured on with almost all kinds of material. A lot of different designs so something for everyone. The book is easy to colour in because of the “lay-flat” binding. In other words : you can flatten the book in order to reach the edges. A nice one again to add to your colouring book collection.
