What a nice book this is. Something completely different than the usual adult colouring books. It looks relaxing to me to colour in this book. I like the black backgrounds on the pages very much. The colours that you use stand out much better than on a white background. The paper feels rather firm, but I will test that in a moment. The book can be opened well and remains flat for easy colouring. First we take a look at the content by means of some examples.
First I coloured a designs showing a word that most people have heard before. I really like colouring this graffiti-like design using markers. That’s what I did on this first design. I used different alcohol markers with bright colours, so they would stand out on the black background even more. The pages are printed one-sided, so put a piece of cardboard between them and off you go. The paper stays nice and it ‘s firm enough for the alcohol markers. It doesn’t bulge and dries well. Sometimes I had to stay away from the outside line to prevent the ink from running over it, but in all it coloured very well.
It’s a nice book for colouring just in between. It doesn’t take much time and the designs aren’t very complicated. Just relax and go.
I coloured my second design using the Faber Castell polychromos. I kept the cats light here but I did the rest using brighter colours. Blended with lighter and darker shades and sometimes using the white pencil. Pencils work well on this paper too. The paper isn’t too smooth so the pigment attaches well. Blending multiple layers isn’t a problem either.
My conclusion is this : I have to admit my first impression was…..Oops, what kind of book is this. But I can only say this book is very nice and relaxing to colour. Good paper and something other than white. The choise of materials is endless because the pages are printed one-sided. The colours come out completely different than on a white background.
With 29 words to choose from, there’s plenty of choises to go wild in this book. I thought it was a great success.
