We have reviewed different sets of Vive le Color sets before so I was very curious about this box, where, besides the book, you get different pencils and a sharpener too. What immediately comes to notice when flipping the pages is that the design on the frontpage is exactly the same as the one on the backside. This logic puzzles me.

I will show you some examples from the book first.

Of course I started colouring in this book. I started by using the pencils that came with this set. There are four pencils with a different colour on each end and four normal pencils. Personally I found these pencils didn’t colour very nicely on this paper. The colour issue was minimal, even when using a lot of pressure only a little pigment was released on the paper. I tried working in layers, but because the paper has a somewhat smoother texture, the paper is quickly saturated. Therefore I’m not pleased with the result.

Next I coloured a design using felt-tips. I chose the Staedler triplus color. These pens coloured nicely on this paper. The ink dried quickly and remained in place well. The colours are displayed well and the ink didn’t press through. Because the designs have very thin lines, you must have a steady hand in order not to go over the lines, or leave some parts white. Getting this done in a proper manner was some kind of a challenge.

Conclusion : It’s a very nice giftbox for giving as a present. The designs on the front are the same as on the back which puzzles me a little. The pencils didn’t colour very well on this paper unfortunately. Pens did colour nicely on this paper, but colouring between the lines was a bit hard, because of the lines being very fine. This work takes patience.
