From Clairefontaine publishers we received this nice coloring book for reviewing. We thank Clairefontaine kindly for this.
On the internet the following information can be found: This Mandala themed Coloring Book by Clairefontaine was designed as a way for adults to express and re-connect with their creativity. Measuring 7-7/8 by 7-7/8 inches each coloring book features 36 pages of 120g Clairefontaine drawing paper that is printed on both sides with beautifully detailed illustrations. Rediscover the simple pleasure of coloring as you wind down and de-stress from the day.
This nice little book is handy sized and contains several mandalas for coloring in. It’s title is just “Carnet de Coloriage” but since there are more volumes in this series I added “mandalas”. As such this book can also be found on the internet. Some mandalas have a black background which makes the colored part jump out more.
The pages are printed double sided which I guess is no problem because of the quality of the paper. More on this later. There are 18 pages with 36 pictures.
Let me show you a few pages so you get an impression of what’s inside.
For my first picture I used both Tombow ABT Brush pens and Edding brush pens. Like expected these felt tip pens prove to be no problem to this firm paper. The ink does not bleed through the page so the backside can be colored in as well. The ink dries well and there is no bubbling whatsoever which is good news to those who like to work with felt tips.
For coloring in the second one I picked Koh I Noor Polycolor colored pencils. Because of the toothy structure of the paper you don’t get an even result. You could chose to use a blender pencil or a paper stump and white spirit but I liked the original effect, so I left it that way. For the background I used Koh I Noor pastel pencils and spread out the pigment with a paper stump. Pastel behaves excellent on this paper. It attaches itself very well and can be spread out nicely.
After having tested all this I must say this is a very nice book. There are several pictures with a white or a black background. Printed double sided but on very firm paper. Felt tip pens go very well and I can also recommend colored pencils and pastel. I do not advise alcohol based markers for this book. A minus is that these books all have the same title. You have to pay attention when looking for these books. A nice book for every colorist, ranging from easy to difficult designs. And do take a look at other volumes. Have fun coloring!
